A place to discuss censored mail from World War II

USA: Min. of Aircraft Production - Personal Letter Section

Postby GassmannP » Wed Feb 03, 2021 6:45 pm

Hello All,

on the following item from March 1943 from the US to UK there are two handstamps new to me:
- Circular "Ministry of Aircraft Production - Personal Letter Section"
- "Technical Data / Unlimited License / U-N-103"

Could anyone comment on the background of these marks? Are they considered censor marks?

best wishes
Peter

Hi,

I do not consider them to be censor marks, since I thunk they were produced by the sender (Tech. Data Lic.) and recipient (receiving datestamp) of the cover.

The Technical Data License handstamp would have been applied to ease the passage if the material through censorship, which presumably would not have allowed it through without such a license.

Fir more on permits and licenses see Frame X, pages 1-6 of my exhibit at viewtopic.php?f=12&t=23
