Polish censor in 1946?

Postby GassmannP » Fri Jan 01, 2021 2:45 pm

Hi

on this card from Poland to Switzerland in March 1946, there is a circular mark "R.P. / U.C. / 3206". Is this a censor mark? if yes, from which organization?

best regards, Peter

Hi Peter-

The marking is a Polish marking from the period of January 1946 to May 1946. Later on the markings continued in use after removing the circle and initials. The initials R.P. and U.C. represented the Republic of Poland Censorship Office. These items are explained in "Polish Exile Mail in Great Britain 199-1949" by George K. Kay and Ron Negus.

Best wishes and a safe and healthy New Year to all

Acc. to KAY and NEGGUS (1997:175) it was a December 1945 decision of the Polish National Liberation Committee.
