Hi

This is a letter from Switzerland to Canada with a a Canadian French language censor label - Peter Burrows has assigned the number 800.4 to this. The Swiss postmark is dated the 23rd of May 1944.

Does anyone have any knowledge of that the number 473 on the front refers to ? Is it something to do with censorship or something different ?

Good morning,

These type of cachets are reported by LaBlonde and Landsmann acc. to the following terminology:

LaBlonde (2012) - sometimes with the terminology "German Berlin Pass Censor number" when there is no censor label on the cover.
Landsmann (2019:84) - "Transitpost" / "Transit mail".

I did not see any 473 in spite there's several different numbers on covers on LaBlonde (2012) book.
In Landsmann (2019:85-86) there's also several different manuscript groups of numbers/letters (from Berlin) similar to those ones on front left side of your cover (Handschriftliche Vermerke).
